There are no known supplement-drug interactions between botanicals used for recurrent abdominal pain (RAP) in children and pharmaceuticals prescribed for this condition. Slippery Elm (ulmus fulva) can decrease absorption of some medications but no studies were available for RAP including histamine-2 receptor antagonists and proton pump inhibitors.
hello Patti,
finding out drug interactions would be difficult for this population, given that they normally do not take medications. for abdominal pain, only thing i could think of that parents might try would be decaffeinated teas such as ginger, chamomile, or peppermint. cumin is starting to become a trend since it helps with inflammation, but i dont see this being used for children at all. thank you for sharing!
