Traditional Chinese Medicine has been shown to be prevalent in children of affluent families. Children who are minorities seek alternative medicine less than their wealthier counterparts. Those children who have used Traditional Chinese Medicine such as acupuncture or Tai Chi and also incorporated family based interventions such as diet and exercise had good outcomes (DeFrain and Laura, 2017). There was a correlation between using other modalities and weight reduction. However, this may skew results due to not having a good representation of minorities. If Traditional Chinese Medicine or Ayurveda was easily available for all children, this would be a good way to explore if there is a significance between these modalities and reduction in weight in children.
