Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has been used for over 2000 years. Acupuncture is one of the therapies of TCM. Acupuncture technique by using sterile needles injected on the skin is thought to alter the flow of Qi to achieve balance in the body (Rakel, 2018). The pathophysiology of needling a certain point on the body alters the pain sensation by stimulating natural endorphins and serotoninergic system in the body. For back pain, acupuncture play a role in the sensory input at the level of the dorsal horn of the spinal cord, making it an appropriate alternative or in conjunction treatment for back pain.
A recent article by Lorenz (2018) a new treatment of acupuncture for chronic back pain is being practiced. The abdominal acupuncture (AA) has powerful result is noticeable within moments the needle is inserted. It is theorized the umbilical region has a special relationship with the circulatory system and embryological and foetal period. Thus, AA is capable of regulating qi in all body parts and organ. The fast and powerful pain relieving mechanism of AA is an ideal treatment for chronic back pain sufferers.
